The RSL Foundation and Utah Royals FC are partnering with CAPSA and inviting all fans to STEP UP, STAND UP, and SPEAK UP for victims of Domestic Violence.

Due to COVID-19, many victims are now trapped with their abusers and increased fear and anxiety is triggering escalated abuse. Since March, CAPSA has seen an increase of 104% in crisis phone calls (more than double), 57% increase in shelter clients, 47% increase in casework sessions and 27% increase in therapy hours compared to the same time period last year. CAPSA has seen record high requests for services since COVID -19.

Helping a Friend or Loved One

Another way we SPEAK UP is in how we respond and support friends and loved ones who are experiencing relationship abuse. Here are some simple steps:

  • Acknowledge the situation
  • Validate their experience
  • Let them know there is help available
  • Respect their choice

RSL Foundation Step UP for CAPSA

To Help With Emergency Housing

The Dell Loy Hansen Family Foundation purchased a fourplex earlier this year for CAPSA’s transitional housing program. The property was in need of major repairs, so the RSL Foundation on behalf of the Utah Royals, donated the funds to completely renovate these homes. They were scheduled to be completed in late April.

However, due to the COVID-19 crisis, CAPSA needed more emergency shelter space to accommodate the social distancing precautions and increased demand for shelter. In response to the crisis concerns, URFC and the RSL Foundation worked with the contractors on this project to finalize and open these units  almost a month early.

During this crisis, CAPSA utilized these units for a combination of emergency shelter and transitional housing.
