Support life-changing and life-saving services

CAPSA is recognized as one of the best domestic violence and sexual assault support centers in Utah, providing a comprehensive range of services that support victims from crisis through healing. Yet, CAPSA cannot offer life-saving and life-changing support services for individuals and families impacted by domestic and sexual violence without your support and the support of our community.

Each year, CAPSA applies and manages nearly $3 million in competitive state and federal grants and raises an additional $1.5 million from the community through business donations, home and office sponsorships, foundation grants, and individual contributions. Your donation to CAPSA funds critical core services including crisis phone lines, case management, clinical therapy, emergency shelter, transitional housing, and youth services.

You may notice that the donation form looks slightly different. We are excited to have moved to a new donation platform. You can expect to receive a confirmation email immediately, with a receipt being sent within 14 days. If you have any trouble, or any information is incorrect in an email or letter, please let us know. We have done our best to ensure a smooth data transfer, but errors still may happen.

CAPSA’s Endowment

What is an Endowment

An endowment is a permanent, self-sustaining source of funding. Endowment funds are restricted (not spent) and invested, which generate dividends to support CAPSA programs. An endowment provides stability and ensures CAPSA’s future financial health – allowing CAPSA to weather funding crises, which may include future pandemics and/or funding insecurity, such as a loss of a grant.

THE NEED

CAPSA’s programs are funded primarily by competitive grants, which are not guaranteed – grants require reapplying every one to two years and may not renew. Since most grants fund multiple positions across departments, when grants don’t renew, CAPSA is forced to end program(s) and let staff go, hurting survivors.

Securities

A gift of appreciated securities is a popular alternative to a cash gift because it saves taxes twice. You not only receive an income tax deduction for the full fair market value of your securities for more than one year, but you also avoid capital gain tax on the appreciation.

Gifts Through Your Will or Trust

You can name CAPSA in a will or trust. This will extend your legacy and may create tax advantages for your estate.

Retirement Plan or Life Insurance Beneficiary

You can include non-profit(s) as beneficiary (primary or contingent beneficiary) to receive all or part of your retirement plan or life insurance policy. Name CAPSA as a beneficiary by completing a beneficiary form with your financial adviser or human resources department.

Somebody’s Attic

Somebody’s Attic is a “second hand store with a first rate cause.” Founded in 1985 as a non-profit organization, Somebody’s Attic is designed to generate funds for CAPSA and The Family Place. Each year, CAPSA received more than $60,000 from Somebody’s Attic.

When you donate your old clothing, home goods and furniture to Somebody’s Attic, half of the proceeds from those sales are donated to CAPSA. Somebody’s Attic also serves as a department store for CAPSA’s clients. Meaning survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault are allowed to take vouchers to Somebody’s Attic and purchase clothes and furniture for free.

CAPSA is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. We have developed this privacy policy to ensure our donors that donor information will not be shared with any third party.

AWARENESS – CAPSA provides this Donor Privacy Policy to make you aware of our privacy policy, and to inform you of the way your information is used. We also provide you with the opportunity to remove your name from our mailing list, if you desire to do so.

INFORMATION COLLECTED – Here are the types of donor information that we collect and maintain:

  • contact information: name, business name, mailing address, phone number, email address
  • payment information: credit card number and expiration date, and billing information
  • past donation and event attended
  • information you wish to share: questions, comments, and suggestions
  • communication preferences: we will send periodic mailings related to specific fund-raising appeals or other communications

INFORMATION NOT USED – We will not link any client information (past or present) with donor information.  These records will be maintained separately.

HOW INFORMATION IS USED – CAPSA uses your information to understand your needs and provide you with better service.  Specifically, we use your information to help you complete a transaction, communicate back to you, and update you on CAPSA’s program, services and events. Credit card numbers are used only for donation or payment processing and are not retained for other purposes. We use the comments you offer to provide you with information requested, and we take seriously each recommendation as to how we might improve communication.

NO SHARING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION – CAPSA will not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to other organizations. We assure you that the identity of all our donors will be kept confidential.  Use of donor information will be limited to the internal purposes of CAPSA.
